Ice Cream and Sandwiches near Windsor Village at Waltham at Pizzi Farm

April 29, 2015 4:16 pm

Pizzi Farm is one of Waltham's treasured businesses. It has operated in town for more than eighty years, and in that time it has entertained generations of locals with its sandwiches and its ice cream.

In fact, one of the traditional ways to know that warmer weather's on the way near Windsor Village at Waltham is the seasonal opening of Pizzi Farm's Ice Cream stand. It opened on April 1 this year, and with the temperature creeping up each day it may not be long until locals head there to grab a cone with soft serve to cool down from the heat. The stand has dozens of flavors of ice cream plus a few sorbets, some flavors of frozen yogurt, and treats like ice cream sodas, floats, and frappes.

Pizzi Farm has a deli, too, with a large number of sandwiches and wraps to enjoy. Some popular options are the Cuban sandwich, the Big Ben with roast beef, cheese, and horseradish sauce, and the Victory Garden with lettuce, tomatoes, mozzarella, peppers, carrots, and onions. Hot dogs, soups, and salads are available, too.

Enjoy This Weekend’s Warm Weather and Explore Beaver Brook North Reservation Near Windsor Village at Waltham

April 24, 2015 4:18 pm

Now that the weather is warming up, why not take advantage of the nearly 60-degree temperatures forecasted in Waltham this weekend and get outside? Beaver Brook North Reservation is less than two miles from your home at Windsor Village at Waltham, and it offers the largest contiguous woods in Waltham — 254 acres.

The park dates back to 1631, when the colony governor of Massachusetts Bay, John Winthrop, commissioned exploration of the area. It was then that some of the geological features were named, including Rock Meadow, West Meadow, and Mackerel Hill. (Mackerel Hill offers some pretty great views of the area, so bring your camera if you go.)

Before heading home, continue down Trapelo Road and stop by Beaver Brook Bottle Shop, a must-visit for fans of good beer and wine. Upstairs offers a decent selection of well-priced bottles, while the pricier ones are stored in the cellar. Browse around and pick out a bottle or two to enjoy.
